Is the dream of homeownership out of reach? Nearly every state and city in the nation faces the triple threat of all-time high home sale prices, soaring mortgage interest rates, and a persistent lack of supply.  Equally troubling, rental housing is unaffordable for half of the nation’s renters, preventing low- and moderate-income families from saving adequate cash for a downpayment on a home. An initiative is underway in the City of Atlanta to address the supply of affordable rental and homeownership opportunities, but housing challenges aren’t limited to the city. What efforts are being made to increase the supply of affordable housing elsewhere in the region?

Increasingly, metro Atlanta jurisdictions are discussing and implementing housing development strategies. Some jurisdictions are beginning to address zoning and other policies that have long restricted the development of smaller-footprint homes, while others are boosting collaborative efforts to promote development.

Join us at the March 13 Atlanta Regional Housing Forum, where we will talk with experts at the Atlanta Regional Commission to get a sense of regional action on housing development. Atlanta Regional Housing Forum founder and moderator Bill Bolling will dive deeper with representatives from three regional jurisdictions to understand barriers to development, resource needs, and early success they are experiencing in their affordable development efforts.

Additionally, the Georgia General Assembly Legislative Session is currently underway. The March 13 forum will also provide a legislative update from affordable housing policy advocate and attorney Elizabeth Appley.
