Rent Relief: U.S. Treasury's Emergency Rent Assistance (ERA)

Federal emergency rental assistance funding from the U.S. Treasury to Georgia totals $710 million. $552 million is to be distributed by the State of Georgia's Department of Community Affairs (DCA).

 

Additionally, 12 cities and counties were given a direct allocation - including the City of Atlanta and seven of the 10 counties in Atlanta Regional Commission's "10 County" region. According to DCA officials, when a jurisdiction's funding has been expended, applicants from those jurisdictions can apply through the Georgia portal. 
 

Federal Funding for rental assistance carry the following requirements for applicants:

•   Incomes less than 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI). Check AMI level here

•   One or more individuals in the household has qualified for unemployment benefits or can attest in writing that they have experienced a reduction in household income, incurred significant costs, or experienced other financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic; and

•    One or more individuals in the household can demonstrate a risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability which may include a past due utility or rent notice or an eviction notice; or unsafe or unhealthy living conditions; or any other evidence of such risk.
